On the Announcement of the Electronic Design and Solution Fair 2003

The 21st century is here, and the biggest focus of attention in the semiconductor industry is, without a doubt, the creation of high-value-added Systems-on-Chip (SoC). Developments in this area will determine the direction of the industry in years to come. In Japan, research targeting the next generation of SoC has been undertaken by the Semiconductor MIRAI Project—a national R&D project for next-generation semiconductor technologies—and the Asuka Project.

To construct the broadband digital network society of tomorrow, the industry must increase the performance of semiconductors and large-scale integrated circuits (LSIs), advance SoC and realize more energy-efficient devices. As a result, it is becoming increasingly important to develop and advance technologies in the areas of electronic circuit design, solutions (including software), and device processing and production.

Reflecting the needs of the era, the Electronic Design and Solution Fair (EDSFair) has been developed as a platform for publicizing the newest design technologies and solutions obtained by combining leading-edge technologies of EDA, devices and IP design services. In 2002, the EDSFair commenced a cooperative relationship with the U.S. Electronic Design Automation Consortium (EDAC), and was highly evaluated as one of the largest comprehensive exhibitions in the Asian region.

The third staging of the fair will be held on January 30 and 31, 2003, in Pacifico Yokohama. Events held simultaneously, such as the FPGA/PLD Design Conference and University Plaza, will make the EDSFair a place for technological interchange between industry, academia and government organizations, and will enrich the Fair’s contents. I am confident that this event will provide all exhibitors and visitors with efficient and effective opportunities for information exchange and new business development. All of us involved with the Fair look forward to your active participation.
